Call to Worship

Leader:  Come, people of God.

People:  Come and celebrate new life in Jesus Christ.

Leader:  Come, people of God.

People:  Come and worship our most generous and loving God.

Opening Prayer

Prayer of Confession (in unison)

Lord God, full of compassion and kindness, we confess that we are not ready for your kingdom of love and peace to be established among us.  We still turn away from others’ suffering; we still postpone caring for your gift of creation; we still tolerate war and take too lightly the burdens of making peace.  Forgive us, O God, for our unreadiness.  Forgive us our indifference.  Awaken us once more to your presence among us, and make of us signs of the coming victory of your mercy; through Jesus Christ, the child of your love and the brother to our hopes. Amen.

Declaration of Forgiveness

Leader:  The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners (I Timothy 1:15).

People:  He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed (I Peter 2:24).

The WOC is planning a trip to Bonclarken  on Tuesday for the Bible Conference.  The van will leave the church at 7:00 a.m.  Anyone in the congregation is welcome to go.  There is a registration fee of $8, and lunch costs about $7.  Please let Jane Sherer know if you plan to go.

Mark your calendars!  On August 5, the young people are going to Ray’s Splash Planet, a water park in Charlotte.  This will be their back-to-school bash.  If you are going, please sign the sheet in the narthex of the church.  Each child and adult is asked to bring a bag lunch.

Dorothy “Dean” Wells, grandmother of Kim Grant, passed on last week.  We thank God she has claimed the promise of the gospel.  Pray for the family.
