Call to Worship  (I John 3:1)

Leader:  The Lord be with you.

People:  And with you also.

Leader:  See what love the Father has given us,

People:, That we should be called children of God;

All:  And that is what we are.

Opening Prayer (in unison)

Gracious God, we are grateful for Jesus and his teachings which impel us to love one another — east, west, north, south, liberal and conservative, large and small, ordinary and extraordinary, rich and poor.  Thank you, Lord, for your love that teaches us to love.  Amen.

.

Prayer of Confession (in unison)

Holy One, we think you belong to us because we have definitions about you, descriptions about you, dogma about you.  We think we are righteous because of such things.  Yet we read in the verse: righteous people do right.  How simple that is Lord, and how obviously true.  You hate sin.  Thus, as your people, we should hate our own sins.  We beg forgiveness for our sins, Lord.  Help us to be your gracious and humble people.  Help us to live in righteousness and truth.  Amen.

Declaration of Forgiveness

Leader: God is creating his kingdom from this world.  Jesus lived and died and rose to new life so that we can participate in creating a reign of goodness and beauty.

People: We are gifted for the task; We are important to the process. Thanks be to God!
