Call to Worship
Leader: We sing praises to you, O Lord!
Community: Our lips praise you and will not be silent.
Leader: We raise prayers to you, O Lord!
Community: Our souls praise you and will not be silent.
Leader: We bring ourselves to you, O Lord!
Community: Our deeds praise you and will not be silent.
Opening Prayer
Prayer of Confession (in unison)
Holy God, we confess that we do not honestly consider our call to holiness. You have called us to be a holy priesthood, but we ignore the demands of servanthood. You have called us to repentance, but we have comforted ourselves with superficial changes. You have set us apart for the purpose of showing your love to the world, but at best, we show a clouded image of it to each other. Although you have addressed us as sojourners and exiles who bear your name, we instead seek security and a less demanding title. Lord, forgive us for ignoring your call, and make us a holy people, set apart for your purpose of love ‘and mercy. Amen.’
Declaration of Forgiveness
Leader: The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners
(I Timothy 1:15).
People: He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed (I Peter 2:24).
