People: "I am the light of the world.
Leader: Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness
People: Whoever follows me will have the light of life."
Opening Prayer
Prayer of Confession (in unison)
O Lord, I come as one sick to the Healer, as one hungry and thirsty to the Fountain of life, as one in need to the King of heaven, a servant to his Lord, a creature to his Creator, a soul in desolation to my gentle Comforter.
But why do you come to me? Who am I that you should offer yourself to me? How dares the sinner to appear in your presence?
You know your servant, and you know that I have nothing good in me that you should grant me this. I confess, therefore, my unworthiness. I acknowledge your goodness. Amen.
[Thomas a Kempis Of the Imitation of Christ, Bk. IV Ch. 2]
Declaration of Forgiveness
Leader: The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners (I Timothy 1:15).
People: He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed (I Peter 2:24).
