Call to Worship (Matthew 23:9-10)
Leader: And call no man your father upon the earth:
People: For one is your Father, which is in heaven.
Leader: Neither be ye called masters:
People: For one is your Master, even Christ.
Opening Prayer
Prayer of Confession: (in unison)
Almighty, eternal God and Father, we confess and acknowledge unto thee that we were conceived in unrighteousness and are full of sin and transgression in all our life.
We do not fully believe thy word nor follow thy holy commandments.
Remember thy goodness, we beseech thee, and for thy name's sake be gracious unto us, and forgive us our iniquity
(Martin Bucer, Liturgies of the Western Church, p168)
Declaration of Forgiveness
Leader: Who is to condemn? It is Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us. (Rom 8:34)
People: So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! (II Cor. 5:17)
