People: And with you also.
Leader: Lord, before the mountains were brought forth,
People: Or ever you had formed the earth and the world, Leader: From everlasting to everlasting
People: You are God.
Opening Prayer
Prayer of Confession (in unison
Great and awesome God, we have sinned and done wrong, acted wickedly and rebelled, turning aside from your commandments and ordinances. We have not listened to your prophets. Open shame, O Lord, falls on us because we have sinned against you. To you belong mercy and forgiveness, but we have rebelled against you. We did not entreat your favor, Lord. We did not turn from our iniquities. We did not consider your faithfulness.
Nevertheless, we pray that you will turn away from your anger and wrath. For your own sake, Lord, let your face shine upon us. Incline your ear, O my God, and hear. We do not present our supplication before you on the ground of our righteousness, but on the ground of your great mercies. O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive. For your own sake, O my God, forgive us because we are your people forever. Amen.
---based on Daniel 9:4-10
Declaration of Forgiveness
Leader: The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting. I declare to you, in the name of Jesus Christ; you are forgiven.
People: May the God of mercy, who forgives us all our sins strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy spirit keep us in eternal life.
