Call to Worship (Psalm 9:1)
Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And with you also.
Leader: I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart;
People: I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.
Opening Prayer
Prayer of Confession (in unison)
I confess to thee, ever-loving God, that I have sinned against thee. I acknowledge my greed. I admit that in the use of my worldly goods I have set myself against thy holy laws. Greedily and against charity have I grasped them. And scarcely, if at all, have I given of them when the need of my neighbor required it. I confess that I have born false witness, that I have gossiped about my neighbor, and I have failed to defend her honor and reputation as my own.
I acknowledge in summary that my life is nothing else than sin and transgression of thy holy commandments.
Wherefore I beseech thee, O heavenly Father, that, thou wouldst graciously forgive me these and all my sins. Keep and preserve me henceforth that I may walk only in thy way and live according to thy will; and all of this through Jesus Christ, thy dear Son, our Savior. Amen.
--Martin Bucer 1539
Declaration of Forgiveness
Leader: The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners (I Tim. 1:15).
People: He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed (I Peter 2:24).
