Concerns of the Church
Call to Worship (John 15:4-5)
Leader: Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
People: I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Opening Prayer
Prayer of Confession (in unison)
Merciful Father, in your goodness you created us male and female. By the gift of marriage, you established the most basic human community, the family. We confess that we do not always appreciate the gift of our families, but often resent them as a burden. We admit that in our selfish desire to indulge our own interests, we neglect the care of our family members. As fathers and mothers, husbands and wives, sisters and brothers, we resist the hard work involved in being a family. We begrudge the time and energy required to maintain the physical and emotional well-being of our families. We choose not to make the effort to communicate about difficult things, then grow angry when we are not understood. We fool ourselves into thinking life would improve if we had someone else's parents or children or spouse. Forgive us for not seeing the treasure behind our own front door. Give us the determination to keep on trying, the courage to change, the will to forgive. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Declaration of Forgiveness
Leader: Who is to condemn? It is Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us. (Rom 8:34)
People: So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! (II Cor. 5:17)
