Call to Worship (Matthew 4:1-4)
Leader: Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
People: And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungered.
Leader: And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
People: But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Opening Prayer
Prayer of Confession (in unison)
God of mercy, you sent Jesus Christ to seek and save the lost.We confess that we have strayed from you and turned aside from your way. We are misled by pride, for we see ourselves pure when we are stained, and great when we are small. We have failed in love, neglected justice, and ignored your truth.Have mercy, 0 God, and forgive our sin. Return us to paths of righteousness through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray, Amen.
Declaration of Forgiveness (Romans 8:38-39)
Leader: For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature,
People: Shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

LITANY FOR LENT
Leader: O Christ, out of your fullness we have all received grace upon grace. You are our eternal hope; you are patient and full of mercy; you are generous to all who call upon you.
People: O Christ, fountain of life and holiness, you have taken away our sins. On the cross you were wounded for our transgressions and were bruised for our iniquities.
Leader: O Christ, obedient unto death, source of all comfort, our life and our resurrection, our peace and reconciliation:
People: O Christ, Savior of all who trust you, hope of all who die for you, and joy of all the saints:
Leader: Jesus, Lamb of God,
People: Have mercy on us
Leader: Jesus, bearer of our sins,
People: Have mercy on us.
Leader: Jesus, redeemer of the world,
People: Grant us peace.
