Call to Worship (Ezekiel 36:26
Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
Leader: A new heart I will give you,
People: And a new spirit I will put within you;
Leader: And I will remove from your body the heart of stone
People: And give you a heart of flesh.
Opening Prayer
Prayer of Confession (in unison)
Lord God, we bow our heads before you in humble confession of the wrongs we have done, as well as the acts of love and mercy we have not done. We have bent the truth to serve our own purposes. We have been slow to apologize and swift to condemn. We have refused to make allowances for others while demanding others make allowances for us. We have coveted things we do not need. We have spoken more than we have listened, getting carried away by our own self-importance. We have been slow to serve, but quick to demand service of others. We arrogantly imagine we can manage the lives of other people when we have not yet learned to manage our own.
For Jesus sake, forgive us these sins. Amen.
Declaration of Forgiveness
Leader: The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners (I Timothy 1:15).
People: He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed (I Peter 2:24).
