Opening Prayer
Prayer of Confession, Psalm 51; Psalm 8, (in unison)
Have mercy on me, O God. You created me to be little lower than the angels, but I have not lived up to my potential. I have coveted ease and comfort above wisdom and growth. I have valued security more than integrity. I have preferred convenience above self-discipline. I have hidden from responsibility by blaming others. I have prized popularity and possessions more than compassion and justice.
I know my transgressions. My sin is ever before me. Against you, you alone, have I sinned.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity. Cleanse me from my sin. Pour out your baptismal grace upon me. Grant me a new birth of freedom and hope, with the power and perseverance to become what you have created me to be. Thank you for continuing to love me. Help me to grow in love for you. Amen.
Declaration of Forgiveness
Leader: The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners (I Timothy 1:15).
People: He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed (I Peter 2:24).
