Concerns of the Church
Call to Worship (Isaiah 60:1; John 8:12)
Leader: Arise, shine, for your light has come,
People: And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
Leader: Lord, you brought light out of the primeval dark.
People: You marched before your people as a pillar of light in the desert night.
Leader: Your glory shone from the face of your Son, Jesus,
People: Who alone could say, "I am the light of the world."
Leader: We would follow him as our guiding star!
People: We would follow him wherever he might lead us! Amen.
Opening Prayer
Prayer of Confession (in unison)
Searcher of hearts, you know us from the beginning. You see in us more good and beauty than we have dared to believe. You beckon us to do more than we have dared to try. Forever you call our names. But we have filled our ears with the sounds of the world; we have timidly spoken of your great love; we have doubted the gifts hidden within each of us.
Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy and forgive us.
Searcher of hearts, shine your forgiving light into our hesitancy, and embolden us to live with such joy and fire that all the world may know of your love. Let it be so. Amen.
Declaration of Forgiveness
Leader: Who is to condemn? It is Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us. (Rom 8:34)
People: So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! (II Cor. 5:17)
