Call to Worship (Matthew 16)
13 Jesus asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
Opening Prayer
Prayer of Confession: (in unison)
Eternal God, our judge and redeemer,
we confess that we have tried to hide from you, for we have done wrong. We have lived for ourselves, and apart from you. We have turned from our neighbors, and refused to bear the burdens of others. We have ignored the pain of the world, and passed by the hungry, the poor, and the oppressed. In your great mercy forgive our sins and free us from selfishness, that we may choose your will and obey your commandments;
Through Jesus Christ our Savior, Amen.
Declaration of Forgiveness
Leader: The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners (I Tim. 1:15).
People: He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed (I Peter 2:24).

ANNOUNCEMENTS
"Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go," the psalmist prayed (Psalm 71:3). May we all find that God is a "rock of refuge" where we find help for every hour of need. A hearty welcome to all who have come to worship our Creator.
There will be a covered dish supper on Wednesday, August 29, 7:00 p.m. We invite you to bring some covered dishes, and come and share. This supper will be the kick-off for Wednesday Bible Study which begins September 5. This year in Bible Study we will be studying Biblical prayer. Perhaps the first question we should ask is: What is prayer?
Lilian Lawrence is our guest organist today. We are glad to have her with us again.
Next weekend is Labor Day Weekend.
