Call to Worship  (Psalm 7:17)

Leader:  The Lord be with you.

People:  And with you also.

Leader:  I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness:

People:  I will sing praises to the name of the LORD most high.

Opening Prayer

 Prayer of Confession (in unison)

Forgive us, loving God, for measuring your will by conventional standards.  Abraham and Sarah, when they questioned your promise, assumed that what goes for us goes for you, too.  And we assume that our half-truths are close enough to your truth; that our halfhearted gestures are close enough to your goodness; and that our grudging halfway advances are close enough to your astonishing love.   Forgive us for forgetting how much larger is your will for us and your expectation from us than we ever admit to ourselves. We dare to pray because we know how much larger your mercy is than we ever deserve.

Words of Assurance

Leader:  Trust always in the love of God: for God is faithful, true and always compassionate. Christ Jesus brings us God’s love which is freely offered to us.

People:   In Christ, we are now forgiven.
