Call to Worship

L: Welcome to the community of faith, the family of God!

P: We come as families, large and small in number, seeking God's love.

L: God's love is here for you.

P: Help us to understand how we are connected to God.

L: We abide in Christ Jesus, in love and compassion.

P: May our spirits be renewed and our connection to God be strengthened through our worship today.

Opening Prayer

Prayer of Confession (in unison)

Triune God, you know what families are like. Even on days like today, when we honor our mothers, we sometimes take them for granted. We have whined to get our own way and ignored the needs of the people we live with. We have been angry at having to do more than our share of the work around the house and been blind to all the ways we have benefited from our family’s support. Our mothers have made sacrifices for us, and we have not recognized it. Reconcile us to our loved ones, O God, and forgive us the ways we have contributed to family tension. Help us accept our family members as precious in your sight, for in the name of our elder brother, Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Declaration of Forgiveness

Leader: The commandment of the Lord is that we love one another, treating each other as beloved brothers and sisters.

People: We abide in God's eternal love.  We let love’s power and joy penetrate our hearts and spirits, preparing us for new growth in the Spirit.
