A Prayer for

Eastertide

May 2001

God of steadfast love, your wonderful deeds of old shine forth even to our own day.

Through the waters of the sea, you once delivered your chosen people from slavery. That deliverance is a sign to us of the salvation of your people through the grace of baptism. Grant that all of the peoples of the earth may be numbered among the offspring of Abraham and rejoice in the inheritance of Israel.

Eternal God, by the power of your Word you created all things. By your Holy Spirit, you renewed the earth.

Give now the water of life to all that thirst for you. Nourish with the spiritual food of bread and wine all that hunger for you. We pray for these blessings, Lord, so that our lives may bear abundant fruit for your glory.

Fountain of wisdom, by your Word you molded all that is and by your Word you molded us in your image. Everywhere we see signs of your loving care. Guide us always in your ways. Give us of your wisdom that we may have life abundant and live forever in the splendor of your glory.

God of holiness and light, in the mystery of dying and rising with Jesus Christ you have established a new covenant of reconciliation.

Therefore, we pray with confidence that you will cleanse our hearts and give a new spirit to all your people.

And having received this new spirit, help us to be living witnesses to your saving grace to our community and to our nation.

Eternal giver of life and light, we remember the radiance of the Risen Lord on Easter morning. Give us of that same radiance.

Renew your church with the spirit given to us in baptism.

Renew us, 0 Lord, that we may worship you in spirit and in truth.

Renew us so that we may be as a light to the world, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
