A

Prayer

for

Lent

March 2007

O blessed Jesus Christ, out of your fullness, we have all received grace upon grace.

You, Lord, are our eternal hope.  You are patient and full of mercy.  You are generous and loving to all who call upon you.  You are the fountain of life and holiness.

You have taken away our sins.  On the cross, Lord Jesus, you were wounded for our transgressions, injured for our follies, bruised for our iniquities.

O Jesus, because you were obedient unto death, you are the source of our comfort.  You are our consolation and reassurance.

You are the source of our lives.  You are our hope of resurrection.  You are our peace and reconciliation.

O Jesus, you are the savior of all who trust in you.

You are the hope of all who die for you.  You are the joy of all the saints.  You gave yourself for us and so may we give ourselves to you.

Inspire us, Lord, to live according to your holy will.  Keep our feet firmly planted in your way.  May our mouths speak the truth that you teach us.  Fill our hearts and souls with that life which is Jesus Christ within us.

Lord Jesus, like the thief on the cross, we say, remember us when you come into your kingdom.

Hear now our intercessions.

Give new life to the church around the world.

Give grace and wisdom to all those who carry out ministries in the church.

Give unity to all Christians of every land.

Give your guidance to governors and rulers of all nations.

Give your healing peace to people who suffer and sorrow.

Help the prisoner, heal the sick, bless the poor.

Lord Jesus, you spoke peace to a sinful world.  By your suffering and death, you brought us back to God.

Teach those who bear your name, Lord, to follow your example.  May our faith and hope and charity turn hatred to love, conflict to peace, and death to eternal life.

This we pray in your name, in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.  Amen.
