A

Prayer

for

Lent

March 2001

O Christ, out of your fullness we have all received grace upon grace. You are our eternal hope. You are patient and full of mercy. You are generous to all who call upon you. You are the fountain of life and holiness.

You have taken away our sins. On the cross, you were wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities. O Jesus, because you were obedient unto death, you are the source of our comfort. You are the source of our lives. You are our hope of resurrection. You are our peace and reconciliation.

O Jesus, you are the savior of all who trust in you. You gave yourself for us and so may we give ourselves to you. Inspire us, Lord, to live according to your holy will. Keep our feet firmly planted in your way. May our mouths speak the truth that you teach us. Fill our hearts and souls with that life which is Jesus Christ within us.

Lord Jesus, remember us when you come into your kingdom and hear our intercessions.

Give new life to the church around the world

Give grace and wisdom to all those who carry out ministries in the church.

Give unity to all Christians of every land.

Give your healing peace to people who suffer and sorrow.

Lord Jesus, you spoke peace to a sinful world. By your suffering and death, you brought us back to God.

Teach those who bear your name, Lord, to follow your example. May our faith and hope and charity turn hatred to love, conflict to peace, and death to eternal life.

This we pray in your name, in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
