A

Prayer

In the Midst of Change

June 2004

Sustaining God, you are always present, lifting us up, strengthening us, and sending us out renewed.

You have inspired generations before us to speak your gospel with courageous confidence.

Whenever we have come to the cusp of change, you have called us from the future, encouraging us to step forward in faith, confident of your grace.

Step with us now, as we fearfully, eagerly, anticipate change once more.

We pray to hear your call.  We pray for renewed vision.

Comforting God, we pray for those at the crossroads of life's changes.

We pray for those whose lives are being changed by death; for those whose lives are being changed by divorce or separation.

We pray for those whose lives are being changed by the birth of a child, by marriage, a new job, or a move.

We pray for those whose lives are being changed by illness or disability.

We pray for those whose lives are being changed by an abusive relationship, who are seeking a way out of dependency.

We pray for those whose lives are being changed by the upheaval in public education--students, teachers, parents, support staff, elected officials.

Creating God, we pray for your grace-filled guidance as we walk into the future as a community of faith, as witnesses to your overwhelming love.

As you reach out your strengthening hand to ours, we step out in faith into a future filled with shades of gray, sustained by the light of your son, in whose name we thankfully pray. Amen.
