Concerns of the Church

Sentences of Scripture (Matthew 10:38-40)

Leader: Jesus said, He that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

People: Jesus said, He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

Leader: Jesus said, He that receiveth you receiveth me

People: And he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

Opening Prayer

Prayer of Confession (in unison)

With humble and repentant thought, Father, we confess our sins to you.

We have failed to show your presence in our lives.

We have been indifferent to those whom you have placed in our lives.

We have not accepted them as part of ourselves.

We have not tried to understand others and to become one with them.

We have preferred ourselves to those around us;

We have taken and not given in return

By sinning against them, we have sinned against your body, the Church and against you.

Forgive us in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.

Declaration of Forgiveness (Psalm 103:8,10-12)

Leader: The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities.

People: For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far he removes our transgressions from us.
