Concerns of the Church

Call to Worship (I John 3:2)

Leader: Beloved, we are God's children now;

People: What we will be has not yet been revealed.

Leader: What we do know is this:

People: When he is revealed, we will be like him,

Leader: For we will see him as he is.

Opening Prayer

Prayer of Confession (in unison)

God of compassion, in Jesus Christ, you reveal the light of your glory, but we turn away, distracted by our own plans. We confess that we speak when we should listen and act when we should wait. Forgive our aimless enthusiasms. Grant us wisdom to live in your light Grant us wisdom to follow in the way of your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Declaration of Forgiveness

Leader: The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners (I Timothy 1:15).

People: He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed (I Peter 2:24).

Announcements

As we gather to worship, let us all reach out in love and fellowship toward God and one another.

Patrick Brady

Having met with the Session on February 18, 2001, and made his profession of faith, Patrick Brady was received as a communicant member of the church. We welcome Patrick to our fellowship! Patrick is the husband of Leslie Connolly Brady. They have one child (right now!), Victoria.

In Patrick's honor this morning, let us sing one verse of #473, "Blest Be the Tie That Binds."

Bible Study: We are studying II Kings on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Today is Transfiguration of the Lord Sabbath, which is celebrated on the Sabbath preceding Lent. This Sabbath commemorates the glory of Christ as demonstrated on the Mount of Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-9).

Wednesday, February 28, 2001, is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. Lent consists of the forty days and six Sabbaths prior to Easter. Lent is a period of discipline, reflection, and abstinence in imitation of Christ's self-denial and in preparation for the holy celebration of Easter.
