Concerns of the Church

Call to Worship (Shorter Catechism Q. 24)

Leader:  The Lord be with you.

People:  And with you also

Leader:  How doth Christ execute the office of a prophet?
People:  Christ executeth the office of a prophet, in revealing to us, by his word and Spirit, the will of God for our salvation

Lighting of the Advent Candle

Prayer of Confession (in unison)

I poor sinner confess to thee, O Almighty, eternal, merciful God and Father, that I have sinned in manifold ways against thee and thy commandments.

I confess that I have not believed in thee, my one God and Father, but have put my faith and trust more in creatures than in thee, my God and Creator, because I have feared them more than thee.  And for their benefit and pleasure, I have done and left undone many things in disobedience to thee and thy commandments.

Wherefore I beseech thee, O heavenly Father, that, thou wouldst graciously forgive me these and all my sins.  Keep and preserve me henceforth that I may walk only in thy way and live according to thy will; and all of this through Jesus Christ, thy dear Son, our Savior.  Amen.

     [by Martin Bucer, 1539]

Declaration of Forgiveness

Leader:  Who is to condemn? It is Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us. (Rom 8:34)

People: So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! (II Cor. 5:17)

Candlelight Service

7:00 p.m.  December 19, 2004.

Many people say this is the most beautiful service in the church all year.  We invite you to come and worship the Lord of light.

At the Congregational Meeting last week, we adopted a budget for 2004 (Now all we have to do is raise the money).  We also elected Congregational Officers: Zane Abernethy, Chairman, Jeff Rossy, Vice Chairman, Richard Sherer, Treasurer.

The WOC has decided not to have individual poinsettias this year but to have one large arrangement.  If you would like to make a special offering in honor or memory of someone, please give your money to Frances Nivens and sign the sheet in the narthex of the church.  We will have a special insert with this information in the bulletin next Sabbath.  The money will go to the General Fund.
