Concerns of the Church

Call to Worship (Psalm 111:1)

Leader:  The Lord be with you.

People:  And with you also.

Leader:  Praise the LORD!

People:  I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation.

Opening Prayer

Prayer of Confession (in unison)

Merciful God,

we confess that we have sinned against you

in thought, word, and deed,

by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.

We have not loved you with our whole heart and mind and strength.

We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.

In your mercy forgive what we have been,

help us amend what we are,

and direct what we shall be,

so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways,

to the glory of your holy name.

This we pray in the name of the only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ Our Lord.  Amen.

Declaration of Forgiveness

Leader: Hear the Good News! Jesus himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. For you were going astray like sheep, but now you have returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls. Praise the Lord!

People: The Lord's name be praised. Alleluia. Amen.

Our annual Jubilee Birthday Party for Foreign Missions and “Back to School Bash” is tonight,  7:00 p.m. This is a covered dish supper.  John Mariner, Executive Director of World Witness, is our speaker.

The Session will meet next Sabbath, August 24.

York’s Summerfest is on August 23.  Once again, we will be doing a fund raiser during Summerfest.  We need everyone’s help.  We especially need workers to set up, take down, and clean up.  We also need workers for every other aspect of this fundraiser.  Further, we need donations of tea, Coke and Pepsi products, homemade cakes and pies.

In this our Sesquicentennial year, we are writing a history of the church.  We intend to include a section on church anecdotes.  If you have an interesting story that you would like to include in this history, please write it down and give it to the pastor.

Bible Study will be starting on August 27.  Our topic this year is Biblical prophecy.

Psalm 111

1  Praise the LORD! I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation.

2  Great are the works of the LORD, studied by all who delight in them.

3  Full of honor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever.

4  He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds; the LORD is gracious and merciful.

5  He provides food for those who fear him; he is ever mindful of his covenant.

6  He has shown his people the power of his works, in giving them the heritage of the nations.

7  The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy.

8  They are established forever and ever, to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.

9  He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever. Holy and awesome is his name.

10  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever.
