Call to Worship (Matthew 4:4)

Leader:  The Lord be with you.

People:  And with you also.

Leader:  One does not live by bread alone,

People:  But by every word that comes from the mouth of God.

Opening Prayer

Prayer of Confession (In Unison)

Almighty and merciful Father; We have erred, and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against thy holy laws. We have left undone those things, which we ought to have done; And we have done those things, which we ought not to have done; And there is no health in us.

But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare thou those, O God, who confess their faults. Restore thou those who are penitent; According to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.  In whose name we pray.  Amen.

Declaration of Forgiveness

Leader:  Who is to condemn? It is Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us. (Rom 8:34)

People: So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! (II Cor. 5:17)

There are so many lonely people in this world.  For them we have Good News.  Jesus, the best friend, comes to us to fill the void of loneliness with love.  Welcome!

Next Saturday, August 12, the young people are going to Ray’s Splash Planet, a water park in Charlotte.  This will be their back-to-school bash.  If you are going, please sign the sheet in the narthex of the church.  Each child and adult is asked to bring a bag lunch.

Margaret Harbin is to have knee surgery on Tuesday.  Pam Smith is to have back surgery on Monday.  Please remember all our sick and shut-ins in your prayers.

The WOC is planning a bridal miscellaneous shower for Lindsay Phillips on Sunday, August 13, from 3 to 4 in the Ladies’ Parlor.  Come and help Trey and Lindsay celebrate this happy occasion.

Summerfest is August 26.  Once again, we will be doing a fundraiser during Summerfest.  We need everyone’s help.  We need workers to set up, take down, and clean up.  We also need workers for every other aspect of this fundraiser.    Further, we need donations of tea, Coke and Pepsi products, homemade cakes, and pies.
