Concerns of the Church

Call to Worship (Shorter Catechism Question 2)

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And with you also.

Leader: What rule hath God given to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy Him?

People: The Word of God, which is contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, is the only rule to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy Him.

Opening Prayer

Prayer of Confession (in unison)

I, poor sinner, confess to thee, O Almighty, eternal, merciful God and Father, that I have sinned in manifold ways against thee and thy commandments.

I acknowledge my greed. I admit that in the use of my worldly goods I have set myself against thee and thy holy laws. Greedily and against charity have I grasped them. And scarcely, if at all, have I given of them when the need of my neighbor required it.

I confess that I have born false witness, that I have been untrue toward my neighbor.  I have gossiped to him and about him, and I have failed to defend his honor and reputation as my own.

I acknowledge in summary that my life is nothing else than sin and transgression of thy holy commandments and an inclination toward all evil.  Amen.

--Martin Bucer 1539

Declaration of Forgiveness

Leader:  The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners (I Tim. 1:15).

People:  He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed (I Peter 2:24).

York’s Summerfest is next Saturday, August 28.  Once again, we will be doing a fundraiser during Summerfest.  We need everyone’s help.  We need workers to set up, take down, and clean up.  We also need workers for every other aspect of this fundraiser.  There is a sign-up sheet in the narthex of the church if you would like to volunteer.  Further, we need donations of tea, Coke and Pepsi products, homemade cakes and pies.
