A Palm Sabbath

Prayer

April 2001

Eternal God, your word silences the shouts of the mighty; therefore, we pray that all voices within us will be quiet except yours.

Speak to us through the suffering and death of Jesus Christ that by the power of your Holy Spirit we may receive grace to show his love in lives given to your service.

We praise you, 0 God, for your redemption of the world through your Son Jesus.

On PaIm Sabbath, he entered Jerusalem in triumph.

He was proclaimed Messiah and king by those who spread garments and branches along his way.

Those palm branches were signs of his victory.

Grant, O Lord, that he may have his victory in us, that dying and rising in him we may enter your kingdom where Jesus Christ now lives and reigns forever.

Everlasting God, in your tender love for all people you sent your Son to take our nature and to suffer death upon the cross.

In your mercy, enable us to share in his obedience to your will and to share in the glorious victory of his resurrection.

Lord, you gave your only-begotten Son to take the form of a servant and to be obedient even to death on a cross.

Give us the same mind that was in Christ.

Empower us to share his humility, that we may also share his glory.

We pray in the name of him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
