Concerns of the Church

Call to Worship (Psalm 46:1-2)

Leader:  The Lord be with you.

People:  And with you also.

Leader:   God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

People:  Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;

Opening Prayer

Prayer of Confession (in unison)

Merciful God,

we confess that we have sinned against you

in thought, word, and deed,

by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.

We have not loved you with our whole heart and mind and strength.

We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.

In your mercy forgive what we have been,

help us amend what we are,

and direct what we shall be,

so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways,

to the glory of your holy name.

This we pray in the name of the only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ Our Lord.  Amen.

Declaration of Forgiveness

Leader: Hear the Good News! Jesus himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. For you were going astray like sheep, but now you have returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls. Praise the Lord!

People: The Lord's name be praised. Alleluia. Amen.

The author of the book of Hebrews writes: “In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications ... and he was heard because of his reverent submission” (Hebrews 5:7, nrsv). We have come today to offer up our own prayers and supplications. Let us not shirk this opportunity to grow closer to God and closer to one another. Come, brothers and sisters in Christ, let us worship the Lord. Welcome to all!

Nancy Stewart met with the Session and was received as a communicant member on October 12, 2003.  Nancy comes to us from Tirzah ARP Church.  We welcome her to our fellowship.  In honor of our newest member, we will sing the first verse of #473, “Blest Be the Tie That Binds.”
